If you are planning to move to London with children, schools will be high on your list of priorities. If you are moving to the city from overseas, or you plan to take your family overseas in the future, an international school may be the best option.
Fortunately, London has no shortage of world-class international schools, and here are some of the very best.
ICL is located on two sites in north-west London: the primary school is near to Regent’s Park, and the secondary school is near to Marble Arch. Both are easy to reach if you live in Chelsea, Kensington or the surrounding area, and the school has a bus service running in these areas.
Founded in 1979 by the Toettcher family, it teaches the International Baccalaureate (IB) to students from the ages of 3 to 18. It belongs to the SKOLA Group of Schools, and students come from over 40 countries. It has an excellent academic record, and its website claims that it is in the top 20% for IB results.
Located at three sites in Kensington, Hampstead and Westminster, this school is convenient for anyone living in central or west London. It provides the complete IB programme for students from 3 to 18, starting with the IB Primary Years Programme and going up to the IB Diploma. With students from about 60 nationalities it is one of the most international schools in London.
Located next to Gunnersbury Park near Chiswick, and with a smaller campus in Surrey, the ISL provides the complete IB programme to students aged 2 to 18. Its main strength is language learning. Students study English and their mother tongue, and older students normally study three languages. It has a good academic record, and its extra-curricular programme is very strong. It even has clubs for parents.
This group of schools offers fantastic facilities in a number of campuses in Egham, Hillingdon and Cobham just outside of London. ACS Hillingdon is the nearest campus to London, and it has school buses serving Notting Hill and Kensington among other areas.
Students can choose from the IB programme and American programmes, and a third of the students are American. However, there are also many British students as well as students from other countries.
This inclusive school offers the IB programme to students from 3 to 18. It is located in North London, and the area is served by school buses. Both local and expat children study here, and the school has good academic results and provides generous scholarships and bursaries. It also has partner schools in Vancouver, New York, Shanghai and Seoul.
Located in Belgravia near to Knightsbridge, Hill House is a Swiss school that teaches the British curriculum and prepares students for the 11+ and 13+ exams. It is housed in a number of historic Victorian buildings, and students are aged 4 to 13. It also has an annex in Switzerland, where students can visit to take courses and go skiing.
